Frequency converters for rail grid interconnections and power supply
For the power supply of single-phase railway grids with 16.7 respectively 25 Hz AC, ABB successfully applies high power static frequency converters, replacing the old fashioned rotary frequency converters.
The converter station can be deployed for bidirectional power flow, controlling the optimal load balance across the line. The power converters also support the island mode operation of the rail network and the entire installation can be remotely controlled.
