Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) signs agreement with ABB

2010-05-25 - CPIT has enhanced its electrical engineering education and training capability thanks to global power and automation technology leader, ABB Limited who is supporting the institute by supplying Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology equipment.

David Maples of CPIT’s School of Engineering, says the contract will result in CPIT receiving the latest in PLC technology, HMI displays and SCADA systems as currently used in the electrical engineering and general automation industries.

“This will allow our students to experience the current industrial equipment and become more familiar with industrial standard equipment in a safe training environment,” says Maples.

“Ultimately, this will make our graduates more employable and sought after by industry.”

Adrian Burden from ABB adds “ABB is always pleased to be able to support the community and this agreement offers some very tangible benefits to both organisations, as well as students, of course”.

Installation of the new equipment is planned for 2011.
