2007-11-25 - Auckland, New Zealand, November 21, 2007 - When Bill Cameron and his team from ABB Limited’s service site at Kinleith Mill approached Council about doing some volunteer work in the community, Council’s Parks and Property Manager, Greg Shaw found the team a project to do at Lake Moana-nui.
“With the spring weather warming up of late, more and more people are enjoying picnics down at the lake,” said Mr Shaw. “Thanks to the efforts of the team from ABB, now everyone can enjoy picnics on freshly painted and spruced up picnic tables and areas.”
Council supplied the materials for the project and the ABB guys teamed up with some Council staff to get the job done. According to Mr Shaw, business efforts like this are important to Council and very much appreciated.
“It’s good to watch the community enjoying the facilities provided by projects like this,” he continued.
“It all started with the Cougar Park Mountain Bike Track and grew from there,” explained Mr Cameron. “During the construction of the park, ABB donated a number of days to bush clearing and developing the tracks as part of a team building exercise. It worked wonders and ABB’s Site Manager at Kinleith, Juergen Link, was only too happy for these community days to become annual initiatives because of the obvious team building benefits and the tremendous response from the community.”
“It is a great way for the guys to take a break from their work, build camaraderie within the team and get involved in doing something for the community. I would recommend more organisations see community projects like this as ideal team building opportunities. We hope the community enjoys the new tables, they certainly brighten the lakeside up,” concluded Mr Cameron.
